Sims2 not working properly?

Sims is mega bugging me atm, the thing is i havnt played on it for a while cos i lost the booklet and it wudnt let me load it on my ova laptop (tht was a yr ago) since then i got a new laptop and i installed the sims it was fine installing it and it worked well for 3weeks then one time i tryed to make a new family and i got as far as 1 sims and i was choosing a hair style for this ova sims and it didnt freeze it just wudnt do nuffin and wen i wnt on taskmanger it sed notresponding, The ova time i got to do a hole family but wen it went on the loading screen (Loading blah family) it frooze again and sed notresponding... anyone got anyideas? Please..p.s its fine loading familys already on there e.g Burb family..and its fine playing them x Thanks 2 anyone hu helps xx
