Why is the girl i like being like this?

She might be afraid that if you two get involved with each other and the distance would make things difficult and she would have the fear that you could be cheating on her. With the compliments she might have a low self confidence/ esteem and not se herself as pretty so when you compliment her she doesn't believe you and/or doesn't know how to respond.
